I bought an UltimateTV this weekend. Not because theres always something on that I just have to watch, but because Speedvision, perhaps the only reason I own satellite, was recently bought by Fox, who promised to turn it into the "Ultimate NASCAR Channel". They promised not to do anything to the regular motorcycle programming, and said they still had contractual obligations to the promoters of motorcycle racing, which I guess is true. But the races I want to watch now run at 5am or are preempted by reruns of "NASCAR Hee Haw". Plus now we can watch Survivor while my roommate records the World Rally races.
And as you'd expect from Microsoft, the UltimateTV kind of sucks compared to a real TiVO. Its lacks some features that I think are fundamental to a DVR, like automatic recording of shows the DVR thinks you might want to watch using your previous selections as search criteria. You dont get any of that with this pile of plastic and silicon. You have to set everything to record manually. Useless.
This week I'm going to Lake Tahoe to visit an old pal and maybe do a little snowboarding. I've got a lot of vacation to burn up at work that they've been on me to start chipping away at, so I've been taking a few days off here, a few days there. I havent snowboarded in easily six years, but I think I'll be able to pick it up again pretty quick. Thats what I'm hoping anyway, since I'll be showing someone else the ropes too.
Now where is that motivation... I know its around here somewhere.
